Sheffield Wildlife Festival is an arts festival held at the Canal basin once a year. It’s main purpose is to raise money for the conservation and protection of wildlife along the Sheffield and Tinsley Canal.
The funds will create a ‘wildlife corridor’ on one side of the canal where animals are free to breed and create habitats in a protected area whilst people can walk along the other side of the canal and enjoy nature in the heart of the city. With biodiversity on the decline and doctors now prescribing nature to patients to improve mental and physical health it is important to create easily accessible areas for both animals and people to enjoy.
The festival will educate people and create a sense of community around the canal basin to re-purpose an area which is currently empty and mainly undeveloped.
